Teach STEM Internship Information

The CWU Teach STEM Program supports our local community through internships and outreach events. Students who are in the Teach STEM Program have the opportunity to apply for internships throughout the year. These internships offer our students an extra opportunity to practice what they are learning while supporting both campus and local community programs.

About our internships

Internship opportunities can vary from year to year depending on our funding as well as the needs of our community. Check out what our interns have been up to this year!
  • Planetarium Interns

Our interns work in the planetarium in Discovery 301 developing educational planetarium shows that they present to students and the public. They also assist Professor Bruce Palmquist with the portable planetarium, traveling to regional schools presenting planetarium shows.

  • Robotics Club Interns

Our interns support four local robotics clubs. Elementary and middle school students in these clubs participate in annual VEX IQ challenges by building robots to perform specific tasks, creating notebooks documenting their progress, and participating in competitions with a goal of qualifying for state and ultimately world championships. Our interns assist in helping students problem solve issues with their robots, practice their interviewing skills, and cheer them on during their competitions. They even have the opportunity to judge and referee during competitions.

  • Math and Science Tutoring

Our interns support Ellensburg High School, Ellensburg Big Picture, Kittitas High School and Morgan Middle School with mathematics and science tutoring. They work in the classroom and after school offering assistance to students struggling in math and/or science.

  • Kittitas Valley Math Circles

Our interns support CWU's Kittitas Valley Math Circles (KVMC) by prepping lessons and fun activities for local elementary and middle school kids. KVMC aims to foster a love of mathematics through problem-solving, exploration, and community building. It provides a space for students, teachers, and parents to explore mathematical concepts in a fun and collaborative setting.
