Washington State Wine Expert Course


 

This asynchronous six-week course will cover Washington State wines and regions with instructor feedback and optional virtual tastings led by the instructor. Successful completion of this course will result in a certificate of completion and a digital badge issued by CWU Continuing Education, showcasing your expertise.  

This course will provide an in-depth exploration of Washington’s diverse wine regions, AVAs, history, geology, climate, and leading producers. Instructor Bio:

Jill Perillo Clark, M.S.
Assistant Professor, Wine Studies

Central Washington University

Jill Perillo Clark is an alumna of Central Washington University, where she earned both her B.A. and M.S. degrees. She brings more than two decades of experience in the Washington wine industry, including roles in wine sales, retail, and distribution. Her professional background includes work with Chateau Ste. Michelle, Haggen Food and Pharmacy, and Kroger/QFC, as well as contributions to regional wine media and events.

Since joining CWU in 2017, Professor Clark has played a key role in expanding the Wine Studies program. As Program Director, she led the development of nine new courses and implemented major curricular revisions. These included the creation of a Wine Industry Management specialization, a corresponding minor, and two certificate programs in Tasting Room Management and Winery Event Design.

Professor Clark’s current research focuses on branding and marketing strategies used by small to mid-sized wineries in the Pacific Northwest. Her work is aimed at strengthening the regional wine industry through targeted, place-based research and academic collaboration.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys gardening, cooking, walking, and spending time with her family. She is also an avid supporter of local food and wine events, live music, and travel.
