College in the High School
Summer Institute 2026 Registration is Now Open!
Stipend Info and Required Canvas Course
This year we will be providing a $200 stipend to anyone (including non-teaching staff like Administrators, Counselors/Reviewers and District Staff) who attend Summer Institute training and complete all necessary requirements. The stipend is in addition to the clock hours we offer instructors who attend. Instructors approved for multiple disciplines will be compensated for each required session they attend.
Our team has created two Canvas courses designed to supplement our Summer Institute workshops. Think of it as the reading assignment before coming to class. One course is catered to veteran instructors who have taught CiHS with CWU before. The other is tailored to our newly approved adjunct faculty members and new high school administrators. Please complete the Canvas course before attending Summer Institute so we have more time for discussion and dialogue rather than lecturing.
You are required to complete your assigned Canvas course to receive credit for completing Summer Institute and receive your stipend. The veteran teacher course is approx. 30 minutes while the new instructors/administrators course takes about one hour to complete. You can complete the course at your own pace that works with your schedule. We encourage you to complete this course before attending Summer Institute.
You must complete the Canvas course before 11:59 pm on Friday August 14th, 2026. Any instructor who has not completed the course by this deadline will not have met the requirements of CWU College in the High School and will not be able to teach during the 2025-26 academic school year.
You will not be added to a Canvas course until AFTER you have registered for a Summer Institute date.
Before You Sign Up...
Plan to attend in person for the most benefit.
NEW TEACHERS are strongly advised to sign up for a session in Ellensburg, Pasco or Olympia if possible. Attending in person allows for additional time for liaison and peer interaction and enrichment as well as opportunity to ask more questions, grab extra swag, and free lunch. We Recommend!
No Double Dipping! Summer Institute is valid for one discipline only. If you are teaching multiple disciplines you must sign up and attend multiple Summer Institute sessions. If you are teaching Math/Physics, Biology/Environmental Studies or another pair of classes you are required to attend one SI session per discipline. The following disciplines pairs do not require two visits and will be offered concurrently:
Engineering (ETSC) and Safety (SHM)
- Does not include Construction (CMGT). Construction is a separate discipline requiring another visit.
Education (EFC and EDBL).
- Does not include Child Development. CDFS is a separate discipline requiring another visit.
Physical Education
- PEAQ, PEF, PEID and PETS can be completed at one session and offered concurrently.
- Does not include Public Health. PUBH is a separate discipline requiring another visit.
Access Codes will be sent by email to required teachers
Due to limited capacity, only newly approved teachers and those who are at their third year and are required to attend are invited to participate in Summer Institute 2026.
We will miss some of you who attend every year but program growth prevents us from being able to offer places for everyone who wants to learn with us.
Before you can sign up to attend you'll need to enter the required access code. Each discipline has a unique code. There is a separate access code for non-teaching staff (ie. Reviewers, Admin, etc.). You should have received an email from us with your access code. If you forgot or lost your access code please call (509) 963-1351 or email HSPartnerships@cwu.edu for assistance.
