Types of Presentations
Types of Presentations
Students in all disciplines and on all campuses - including online - can present at SOURCE. The type of presentation you choose to make is based on the type of work you have done and your goals for your presentation. Talk with your mentor about which format is most appropriate for you.
Oral Presentations
In an oral presentation, you have 10 minutes to present your work, usually with slides, in front of an audience, with 2-5 minutes for questions.
- An oral presentation is a great choice for a completed project where you aren't looking for as much feedback. An oral presentation at SOURCE is also excellent practice for an oral presentation at a regional or national meeting/conference.
- IMPORTANT: You will be required to upload your final presentation slides a few days before SOURCE so OUR team can prepare the presentation rooms. You will NOT be able to upload your presentation on the day of SOURCE. More information will be provided to presenters closer to the event.
Posters
Posters are typically 36” x 24” to 48” x 36” in size and summarize your project from start to finish (or to whichever step you are on at the time of presenting).
- You will be assigned to a session based on the college or department of the project. Presenters will have the opportunity to share their project and answer questions.
- Presenters are required to be with their poster for the duration of their assigned session.
Creative Expression, Performance, and Exhibitions
Performances generally include musical performances, dance/movement, theatre, film and video, and spoken word. Typically, performances are up to 12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions but it may be possible for different time lengths to be accommodated.
Panels
If you would like to propose a panel or a full 50-minute session, please contact us prior to April 1, 2026 at source@cwu.edu to discuss logistics and the vision of your panel.- In a panel presentation, three or more oral presentations that share a theme are scheduled together, with a longer time scheduled at the end for a discussion that integrates all the presentations.
- In addition to the presenters, a panel has a moderator who facilitates the discussion and prepares questions in advance.
- Student clubs and organizations may also present their scholarly activities in the panel format if requested and approved by the deadline.
- IMPORTANT: If you select "panel" when submitting your SOURCE Registration and your group has not been pre-approved for a panel by the SOURCE team, your presentation will be assigned to a regular 10-minute Oral Presentation time slot.
Pre-recorded Presentations
Pre-recorded presentations provide online and non-Ellensburg campus students the opportunity to present their work*. These presentations will be recorded prior to the SOURCE event with the same guidelines as an Oral Presentation and sent to the SOURCE team.
- Pre-recorded presentations will be streamed in the SURC at SOURCE Day 2 and uploaded to the CWU SOURCE YouTube channel for public viewing.
- The pre-recorded presentations are also an option for Ellensburg campus students who are unable to attend in-person.
*Online and non-Ellensburg campus students are welcome to present onsite–the CWU Ellensburg campus–if able.
