CITI Training

All principal investigators, faculty sponsors, and research personnel must complete research ethics training before receiving approval for and conducting human subjects research.

If your research is funded by NSF or NIH, please contact Research and Sponsored Programs for more details on additional training.

How to Complete Training for Human Subject Research

The HSRC uses the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program for required training in human subjects research. Recertification is required every 5 years.

  • Select Research with human subjects for Question 1.
  • Select Researchers/Investigators for Question 2. Complete the rest of the form as applicable.
  • You may complete the tutorial in more than one session.
  • You must achieve an average score of at least 80% on all quizzes to proceed through each module and successfully complete the training.
    • The Researchers/Investigators course requires you to complete 3 electives relevant to your research. Supplemental modules are optional and available for all learner groups to expand their knowledge.
