Pep Band Auditions


About the Audition Process

Each member of the pep band must audition via electronic submission. Although you are encouraged to submit your audition materials before the deadline, submissions will be accepted through Friday Dec. 2, 2022, 11:59pm. Please note, audition materials submitted after this deadline will be accepted at the director’s discretion.

Members should submit audition materials (video link) using the form below. Please note, if you are using a YouTube link, etc., for your submission, please ensure the videos are set to “unlisted” so your files can be accessed.

Audition Video Specifics (WINDS)

Video record the following as part of the audition:

  1. Self-introduction: No longer than 2 minutes. (Question to address should include; why you are interested in being a part of the CWU Pep Band?)
  2. Perform the following musical selections
  • Fight Song
  • Concert B-flat scale, ascending and descending (all slurred)
  • Chromatic scale; from your best sounding low pitch to your best sounding high pitch (all slurred)

Audition Video Specifics (DRUM SET)

Video record the following as part of the audition:

  1. Self-introduction: No longer than 2 minutes. (Question to address should include; why you are interested in being a part of the CWU Pep Band?)
  2. Perform the following musical selections
  • 16 bars in Rock style
  • 16 bars in Funk | R&B style
  • 16 bars in Swing style
  • Please include up to 3 minutes of freestyle playing demonstrating your overall ability on the drum set

Audition Video Specifics (GUITAR | ELECTRIC BASS)

Video record the following as part of the audition:

  1. Self-introduction: No longer than 2 minutes. (Question to address should include; why you are interested in being a part of the CWU Pep Band?)
  2. Perform the following musical selections
  • Please record up to four minutes of music of your own choosing demonstrating proficiency on guitar | electric bass in a variety of styles when possible.

Ensemble Instrumentation

Instrumentation is flexible and subject to change. 4 piccolos, 4 clarinets, 6 alto saxophones, 4 tenor saxophones, 9 trumpets, 4 mellophones, 6 trombones, 3 Baritones, 4 Sousaphones, 2 percussionists (drum-set), 1 bass guitar, and 1 guitar.
