About the Physical Education and School Health, BS

The Physical Education and School Health, BS is a teacher-education program for those who want to teach physical education and health in K-12 school settings. Our program goes beyond the traditional approach, utilizing a wide range of instructional strategies such as brain-based education, stress management, and cooperative learning, as well as nutrition, fitness, and adventure education. Using the latest technology, you will learn to incorporate tools like heart rate monitors, accelerometers, tri-fit, and movement analysis software. Through our program, you will apply theory to practice in school settings, allowing you to develop skills at both the elementary and secondary levels. With innovative approaches to PE and Health, we know you will do something great at CWU.

  • Physical Education Teacher: Alongside a teaching certification, you can pursue a career as a physical education teacher at elementary, middle, or high schools. You will have the opportunity to shape students' physical fitness, teach sports and recreational activities, and promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • School Wellness Coordinator: Many schools are placing an emphasis on creating healthier environments for students. You can develop and implement wellness initiatives, programs, and activities.

Highlights

Physical Education and School Health Alumni

2015 graduate, Lauren Herseth, got her degree in Physical Education and School Health in 2015. In 2019 Herseth came back to CWU for a master's in athletic administration and is now the Assistant Volleyball Coach for the CWU Wildcats.

Tanner Swanson graduated from CWU in 2005 with a degree in Physical Education. After serving as Assistant Coach for UW’s baseball team, as well as the MiLB Catching & Assistant Field Coordinator for the Minnesota Twins, he is now the Major League Quality Control Coach & Director of Catching for the New York Yankees.

New Facilities, New Possibilities

CWU’s Department of Sport and Movement Studies is housed in the new $60 million Health Sciences Building, which allows students to study in a state-of-the-art facility with innovative technology.
