We offer a minor in Dance Teaching to help you develop your passion for dance and reach your full potential as a performer and educator. The program focuses on technical mastery, artistic expression, and performance experience, allowing you to develop your unique style. With personalized attention and mentorship from faculty, you'll have the support you need to grow and explore creatively, all while working toward your goals in dance.

Teaching Path
This minor partially satisfies the criteria for a teaching endorsement in Dance, qualifying students to teach dance in preschool through high school levels. Students who successfully complete this minor, an endorsement major, and the Secondary Education Program or Elementary Education Major are eligible to apply for Washington State teacher certification.

Orchesis Dance Company
The mission of Orchesis Dance Company is to promote dance as a performing art and to provide opportunities for you to choreograph, learn, and perform original artistic works. The dance styles emphasized within the company are Modern Dance and Jazz Dance.
Non-Teaching Path
You can complete this minor without going throughTeacher Certification Program or completing the Professional Education Program if you want to work in dance educational settings that do not require teacher certification.
Custom Facilities
Located in Nicholson Pavilion, our updated studio space with high ceilings and sprung floors serve the needs of students entering the sport and movement studies field. We also host dance workshops, events, and performances in McConnell Hall and the Milo Smith Tower Theatre.
Skills in Education
In DNCE 314 – Dance for Children, you will learn the skills for instructing elementary education-age children in dance, including creative dance, rhythmic exploration, use of props, unit plan development, and methods of assessment.
