Admission Requirements

The Bachelor of Music in Composition cannot be declared until the end of the spring quarter of your first year of study.

Incoming Freshmen with an interest in the Composition degree program need to first and foremost audition and be accepted on their primary instrument. The freshman year should be used to achieve a higher level of the applied instrument and acquire, and/or solidify, the necessary skill set (music theory) to become an informed, artistic, and more successful composer

We offer many ensemble opportunities in a wide range of instrumental combinations, styles, and proficiencies. From our large symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, or premier vocal group to our small jazz combos and brass quintets, there is an ensemble for you. For a full list of ensembles, reference our CWU Music Ensemble Opportunities.

In 2020, a musical composition by Alumni Aaron Rausch was broadcast for the state government news network TVW's 25th-anniversary celebration. Aaron graduated from CWU in 2022.
