Online Accessibility and Disability Studies Undergraduate Minor

Four required courses plus approved elective credits constitute the 22+-credit minor, which includes the Undergraduate certificate. This program is for students working toward a bachelor’s degree.

Program Requirements

  1. Prerequisites: You must be admitted to CWU.
  2. Required Courses: 17 credits.
    1. ASP 305 Accessibility & User Experience (4 cr). Every quarter. *Satisfies General Education Knowledge Area 6.
    2. ASP 425 Universal Design (5 cr). Fall, Summer.
    3. ASP 435 Accessible Information Design (5 cr). Winter, Spring, Summer.
    4. ASP 485 Accessibility Capstone (3 cr). Spring, Summer. *Satisfies General Education Culminating Experience requirement.  
  3. Elective Requirements: At least 2 program-approved elective credits. Examples:
    1. ASP 184 PADStone (4 cr). Fall, Spring. *Satisfies General Education First Year Experience.
    2. ASP 410 Current Issues in Accessibility (1 cr). Every quarter. Repeatable.
    3. ASP 420 Universal Design for Learning (4 cr). Summer.
    4. ASP 440 Accessibility, Disability, & Social Justice (4 cr). Winter, odd years. .**Satisfies graduation requirement of Anti-racism Diversity & Inclusion course.
    5. ASP 452 Media Portrayals of Disability (4 cr). Winter, Summer.
    6. ASP 475 Research Methods (2-7 cr). Every quarter. Repeatable.
    7. ASP 492 Accessibility Practicum (2-10 cr). Every quarter. Repeatable.
  4. Completion Requirements: All courses must be passed with at least a C+ final grade; The culminating exam must be passed with at least 75%.

Advising Notes

  • All classes are online with synchronous meeting opportunities.
  • Three courses (410, 475, and 492) are repeatable. 475 and 492 are variable credit.
  • If you need more than one quarter to complete your ASP 485 Capstone, you must be continuously enrolled (e.g. ASP 475 or 492) until you finish.

*General Education:  Satisfy 3 of your Gen Eds with  ASP 184, ASP 305, and ASP 485. Then you only need two more courses to complete the minor (ASP 425 and 435).

** Anti-racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (ADI): ASP 440 satisfies the new graduation requirement.
