Aircraft Fleet & Simulators

Aircraft Fleet

When beginning your aviation journey, the type and quality of the training aircraft available to you are essential factors to consider. Imagine stepping into a diverse fleet, each aircraft equipped with advanced avionics and safety features. As you familiarize yourself with the controls, you gain valuable experience in handling different aircraft, each with its own unique performance characteristics. This exposure can be incredibly beneficial, preparing you for a variety of aircraft in your future career. Gaining experience with cutting-edge technology is particularly advantageous, as many commercial airlines utilize similar systems. As you progress through your training, keep in mind that the variety and quality of the aircraft fleet will significantly shape your skills and experience as an aspiring aviator.

Central Washington University operates a fleet of new Piper aircraft for flight training. Private, Instrument, and Commercial pilot training utilizes Piper Archers (PA-28-181). Commercial pilot training also uses a Piper Arrow (PA-28R-201) or Piper Archers (PA-28-181) with two-axis auto pilot (Technically Advanced Aircraft) for their complex aircraft training. Commercial Multiengine training is conducted with Piper Seminoles (PA-44-180). Additionally, a Cessna 172R is utilized for spin training.

Simulators

Frasca RTDs (Piper Archer G1000 NXi)

This is the newest addition to our department. This simulator mocks Piper Archer with G1000 NXi; the fleet that we use in flight training. Simulator training is incorporated in our Part 141 training, which will expedite the student's flight training progress.

Main Features:

  • CWU currently has 4 Frasca RTDs
  • Mock up of actual Piper PA-28-181 Archer including flap handle
  • Officially licensed real G1000 NXi Software
  • Able to simulate location, weather, and performance

Training Simulators

Four of the flight simulators model our Piper Archer aircraft, which ensures our students are learning correct procedures and habits.
