Learning Commons
Apply to Work as a Math Tutor
Please note that the Learning Commons is not hiring math tutors at this time and does not anticipate hiring more until Spring 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Undergraduate Math Tutor Positions
Math tutors work with students on an individual basis to further understanding of math concepts, stimulate active learning, support them in meeting course outcomes, and illuminate insights into their learning processes and study skills. Tutors exemplify the core values of the Learning Commons and also support day-to-day operations in the service of all students. Successful applicants will be CWU students in good academic standing, will have earned at least 45 credits, including Math 172 and Math 173 (or approved equivalent) with a B or higher, by the end of the current term, and will undergo, if hired, ongoing training in math and tutoring pedagogy.
Our Math & Writing Tutoring Manager typically reviews applications for undergraduate and graduate math tutors in the spring for the following academic year and may continue hiring through summer if necessary. Interviews are held as needed until positions are filled. Although interviews may be held via phone or video, this is normally an Ellensburg campus position requiring local residence. If you meet the qualifications or wish to obtain more information, contact the Math & Writing Tutoring Manager, Hannah Barta, at 509-963-1367 or by email, or stop by the Learning Commons, which is housed on the first floor of Brooks Library.
