CWU Alum Casey Jacox Establishes New Scholarship

Graduating from Central in 1998, Jacox spent 20 years of his post-college life in the corporate world before pivoting to become an author, coach, speaker, and podcaster.

In 2020, Jacox published a book titled Win the Relationship, Not the Deal, which then inspired the name of his company: Winning The Relationship, LLC.

“Helping others succeed by sharing my failures or challenges always fills my tank,” Jacox says. “If you focus less on yourself and find ways to help others, the boomerang of positivity or success will come back to you.”

Recently, Jacox met two men who helped him grow in life, a man named Dale Favors, and a CWU professor named Andy Parks. They helped inspire him to make a gift to CWU to establish the Pay It Forward Scholarship, aimed at helping minority student-athletes achieve their dreams.

Reflecting on what inspired him to start the scholarship, Jacox says, “As a middle-aged, white, privileged man, I wanted to do something uncommon. I wanted my philanthropy to be different and help strengthen relationships of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds."

He remembers his time at CWU fondly. One of his favorite memories is a football game where he was put in after one of the team’s starters was injured. Even though they lost the game, Jacox says, “That game helped me form a passion around the word 'believe,' which is so important to me now.”

In addition to football, Jacox says he learned a variety of skills during his time in college, including being organized, following through with what he started, and being accountable to himself and those around him.

“Be coachable,” he tells current Wildcats. “Be vulnerable to share what you don’t know and find mentors in life who will help you.”

Jacox hopes that the scholarship will help student-athletes succeed, and he looks forward to getting to know every recipient.
