Writer, Poet, Essayist Erika L. Sánchez Gives Public Reading at CWU on May 7

Acclaimed young adult novelist and poet Erika L. Sánchez will visit Central Washington University on May 7 for a public reading and craft talk.

Sánchez, author of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter (Knopf, 2017), nominee for the National Book Award in Young People’s Literature and an instant New York Times bestseller, and Lessons on Expulsion (Graywolf, 2017), will hold a craft talk from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a public reading of her works at 6 p.m. Both events will be in the Brooks Library Second Floor Commons.

Sánchez is currently a 2017-2019 Princeton Arts Fellow, and a recipient of the 21^st Century Award from the Chicago Public Library Foundation, an essayist, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry. Her poems have appeared in prestigious literary journals including Poets.org, Pleiades, Copper Nickel, Vinyl Peotry, Guernica, diode, Boston Review, ESPN.com, the Paris Review, Gulf Coast, POETRY Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine.

When not writing, Sánchez is an enthusiastic advocate for young women everywhere, and speaks about the rights and experiences of undocumented immigrants and young people of color, using her platform and her journey as a writer to encourage her audiences to tell their own stories.
