Weekend at Yakima Training Center for CWU Army ROTC Cadets
- May 19, 2016
About 60 Central Washington University Army ROTC cadets head are now preparing for a weekend of work at the Yakima Training Center (YTC).
Those members of CWUâs nationally regarded program are scheduled for field exercises Saturday (November 21) from 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Freshman and sophomore cadets will focus on honing their knowledge of basic tactic to develop âgood habits for multiple battle situations,â said Olivia Halsne, CWU Army ROTC student public affairs officer.
A psychology major from Mukilteo, Halsne and other senior cadets will lead the training. Junior cadets will be involved in a day-long, battle-focused mission, where they will be faced by an opposition force comprised of about 15 CWU Air Force ROTC volunteers.
âThey [Army cadets] will need to apply what theyâve learned over the past couple of years to be successful in the mission,â added Halsne, who is in her final year ahead of being commissioned a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps.
The annual training by the CWU cadets is conducted on a variety of range complexes and support facilities within the 327,000-acre YTC. Itâs used throughout the year for similar exercises by various military units from across the country and around the world.
