Experience the magnificent “World Without Walls,” a lively afternoon of performances featuring dance groups Bailadores de Bronce of Seattle and Ballet Folklorico Los Bailadores Del Sol of Central Washington. They will be joined by Mariachi Del Centro and award-winning opera and bolero tenor José Iñiguez, who will also serve as Master of Ceremonies. The free event will be from 1:00-2:30 p.m. in Central Washington University’s McConnell Theatre.

The World Without Walls invites you to explore the richness of Mexican culture, both current and historical, where the performers will weave legend and folklore into each performance. Dancers and musicians will pay homage to regions such as Concheros (Aztec), Guerrero Costa Chica (Guerrero, Mexico), Veracruz Antiquo and Jarocho (Veracruz, Mexico), Chihuahua Polka, and Jalisco.

Bailadores de Bronce received the 2012 Governor’s Heritage Arts Award and this year is celebrating 45 years of traditional folkloric dancing. According to its website, the group’s mission is “to promote the beauty and richness of Mexican traditions through music and dance in the Pacific Northwest. We seek to encourage a bridge of understanding among all people by sharing our culture, preserving our traditions and instilling pride in our youth.”

The Ballet Folklorico Los Bailadores Del Sol is a student club at CWU, and its founder, Randy Robert Lopez, has worked diligently to form a club centered around the folklorico dance tradition.

Mariachi Del Centro, another student club, performs not only at campus events but also throughout the community and region. The group actively recruits members to continue the mariachi tradition in the area.

Iñiguez is an alumnus of the CWU music program and grew up in Mattawa, Washington. His upbringing instilled in him a passion for both classical opera and traditional Mexican Mariachi. He began singing at family events at the age of twelve, and performed in choirs throughout adolescence. Iñiguez won the prestigious Director’s Choice Award in 2016 by Univision Latin Music.

This event is sponsored by CWU Student Involvement, CWU Mariachi Del Centro, Ballet Folklorico Los Bailadores Del Central Washington, and Bailadores De Bronce of Seattle. Persons of disability may make arrangements for reasonable accommodation emailing DS@cwu.edu.
