CWU students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend a special screening of the counterculture film Ginsberg's Karma on Tuesday, May 9, as part of the Storytelling for Identity and Belonging series.
The 4 p.m. screening on Zoom is presented by poet Bob Holman and co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities, the Department of English, and the Liberal Studies program.
Attendees are asked to register in advance. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
Ginsberg's Karma is an insightful and entertaining look at a transformative phase in the poet Allen Ginsberg's life, including his first trip to India and how it changed him and the people around him.
His adventures and what he experienced in India is the bridge between the Beat generation of the 1950s to the hippie counterculture of the 1960s in America. Ginsberg calls it "The Change" in his book, Indian Journals. While in India, he would experiment with mind-altering drugs, transcendental meditation, and become an activist.
The documentary film that will be shown May 9 follows Holman as he travels to India to piece together Ginsberg's life in India and interviews many of the writers who knew him during his trip.
If you would like more information about the upcoming Zoom presentation of Ginsberg's Karma, email Liberal Studies program director Xavier Cavazos.
