Is North Korea a nuclear threat to the United States? That will be the focus of a CWU discussion led by Moon Duk-ho, the Republic of Korea’s Consul General in Seattle. He will visit Ellensburg on Wednesday, May 10, for his presentation, titled “North Korea and the Rise of China.”

The free, public address in Dean 104, which will include a question-and-answer session, will begin at 4:00 p.m., and will be followed by an open reception in the Dean Hall lobby.

Moon will also outline why the South Korean government opposes North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and seeks to make the Korean Peninsula nuclear-weapons free, as well as how China and the United States have opposing views on the issue.

A career diplomat, with more than 28 years of experience in countries around the world, Moon has served as South Korea’s representative to the United Nations Security Council in its sanctions office. He has also published widely on the nuclear issue.

All campus community members—especially students from anthropology, Asian Studies, history, philosophy, and political science, and those from China, Japan, and Korea along with the Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets—are encouraged to attend.

Moon’s campus visit is sponsored by the Department of Political Science, Asian Studies Program, and College of the Sciences.
