Sisters to Bring Irish Folk Music and Step Dancing to CWU

The Gothard Sisters are bringing their traditional Irish folk music and step dancing to CWU for a 7 p.m. performance Friday, December 5 in the McIntyre Music building Concert Hall. The trio’s fiddle tunes, champion dancing and holiday themed melodies make for energetic family entertainment. Tickets are $5 for CWU students and $10 for general admission and are available online.

Greta, Willow and Solana Gothard grew up playing the violin and have since added guitar, cajon, keys, bodhran, mandolin, and pennywhistle to their repertoire. The Pacific Northwest group has performed nationally in Celtic and folk music festivals, community concerts, state and county fairs, halftime shows, colleges and concert series.

The Gothard Sisters write much of their own music, which is full of energy, joy and excitement. The trio has released eight albums, including Story Girl, which was Celtic Radio’s 2011 album of the year. The group also was named best new Irish artist at the Irish Music Awards for 2013.

The sisters are champion Irish step dancers, having competed multiple times at the World Championships of Irish Dance. When sister Solana was 11 years old, she became the youngest dancer from the Pacific Northwest ever to qualify for the world championships.
