Seattle-based writer and ‘Internet Yeller’ Ijeoma Oluo to Speak at CWU Diversity Awards

Ijeoma Oluo, a Seattle-based writer and self-described “Internet Yeller,” because of her outspoken social media presence, is the keynote speaker at Central Washington University’s fifth annual Diversity Awards on May 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom on the CWU campus.

Oluo, author of “So You Want To Talk About Race,” has written about social issues such as race and gender for The Guardian, TIME, The Washington Post, ELLE Magazine, and New York Magazine. She is also a prolific blogger on the Medium platform (https://medium.com/@IjeomaOluo).

Oluo was named one of the most influential people in Seattle by Seattle Magazine, one of the 50 most influential women in Seattle by Seattle Met, and one of The Root’s 100 most influential Americans in 2017 and 2018.

Additionally, she was the recipient of the Feminist Humanist Award for 2018 by the American Humanist Association, the Media Justice Award by the Gender Justice League, and the 2018 Aubrey Davis Visionary Award by the Equal Opportunity Institute.

The CWU Diversity Awards were created to recognize individuals who have shown a commitment to diversity, have contributed to effective change, demonstrated consistent engagement, and actively nurtured a support environment for inclusivity.
