During the past 40 years, Washington State has emerged as a premier wine region with more than 800 wineries. The sagebrush and rattlesnakes of its high desert lands in the central and eastern parts of the state have recently transformed into world-class vineyards.

Central Washington University’s Celebrating the Arts and Humanities Series features Marji Morgan, chair of the Communication Department. Morgan will present “From Sagebrush to Vineyards: Washington's Route to the World Wine Map.” The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. on April 13 in the Student Union Recreation Center Room 137A/B. A reception will follow; the event is free and open to the public.

Using material from her Lines on Wines interviews with Washington winemakers, Morgan explores why Washington is unique as a wine region and how its wine industry has rapidly became a contender for international awards for a diverse array of fine wines.

Morgan is a wine enthusiast and historian. She is passionate about good wine and a good story, and explores both in her new Internet radio talk show Lines on Wines hosted by Ellensburg Community Radio.

CWU’s College of Arts and Humanities Celebrating the Arts and Humanities Series features a broad range of scholarship and artistic endeavors. The series is designed to engage, enlighten, inspire and ultimately foster widespread conversations and build a far-reaching scholarly community.
