Premiere Party Planned for Season Three of the ‘Nick on the Rocks’ TV Show

A special premiere event for season 3 of the popular “Nick on the Rocks” television program is scheduled for 7 p.m. on January 24 in the Student Union and Recreation Center Theater on the Central Washington University campus.

All six of the new “Nick on the Rocks” episodes will air during the premiere event.

“Nick on the Rocks” is sponsored by Central Washington University and hosted by CWU geology senior lecturer Nick Zentner. It airs on public television, KCTS 9 (which also streams episodes at www.kcts9.org/nick-rocks) as well as on Oregon Public Broadcasting and KSPS-Spokane.

The premiere is free to all, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and screening beginning at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The episodes will start broadcasting on KCTS on Thursday nights at 8:50 p.m. during the months of February and March. The five-minute episodes also will be available on YouTube and the PBS app.

Zentner is an award-winning educator who was honored with the National Association of Geoscience Teachers’ prestigious James Shea Award, which recognizes exceptional delivery of Earth Science content to the general public. In addition to teaching geology at CWU since 1992, he has hosted several web and broadcast programs including “2 Minute Geology,” “Roadside Geology,” and “Central Rocks.”

Executive producer of the show is Linda Schactler, chief of staff at CWU and a member of the Community Advisory Board for Cascade Public Media, which owns KCTS.

Chris Smart, a video producer at CWU, serves as videographer and producer/editor of “Nick on the Rocks.” He is a regional Emmy award-winning producer who began his broadcast career as program director and music director for radio stations in North and South Carolina.

• The Ice Age Mystery of Lake Lewis (TriCities area under 1,000 feet of Ice Age water)

• Steamboat in the Desert (Steamboat Rock and the Grand Coulee)

• The Goldilocks Miracle of the Palouse (Loess Hills of southeast Washington)

• Puget Sound’s Exotic Terranes (Deception Pass)

• Ghost Forest (Trees killed by the 1700 AD Great Quake at Washington’s coast)

• Giant Ripples in the Scablands (West Bar and the Gorge Amphitheater)
