One Book, One Campus Series Kicks Off with So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo

Central Washington University's Provost Diversity Council has created the One Book, One Campus series. The purpose of the series is to create a space for the campus to learn about, center, and begin considering issues of race and diversity at CWU and in CWU communities.

The series, open to everyone, will kick-off with an online panel discussing Seattle-based writer Ijeoma Oluo's book, So You Want to Talk About Race, on November 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oluo has written about race and gender issues for The Guardian, TIME, The Washington Post, ELLE Magazine, and New York Magazine.

Panelists, who will discuss their experiences as students of color and as professionals, include:

• CWU alumni and Board of Trustee Vice Chair, Robert Nellams ('81, BS Accounting). Nellams has served as director of the Seattle Center since 2006.
• CWU alumna and Trustee Zabrina Jenkins ('92, Business Administration). Jenkins is senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Starbuck Coffee Company.
• CWU Student Trustee Nathaniel McMillion (majoring in Public Relations, minoring in Africana and Black Studies). McMillion has served as president of the Black Student Union and been involved in CWU's Brother 2 Brother chapter.

For the One Book, One Campus series, the Diversity Council will a select a book each quarter and encourage campus groups and organizations to discuss the book and learn from one another. The book selected for the spring 2021 quarter is Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor, by Layla F. Saad.
