A member of the Central Washington University football coaching staff has accepted the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ronnie Scott joined the Wildcats this spring as a special teams coordinator and safeties coach, and he looks forward to taking on an exciting opportunity in the NFL.
"I'm honored to be chosen for this internship with such a prestigious NFL organization and culture of winning," Scott said in an article published last week on WildcatSports.com. "I'm excited to soak in all the knowledge and bring as much as possible back to Central for this upcoming season."
The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which was named after the late Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach, provides experience to outstanding coaches from diverse backgrounds. The program was designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches, allowing talented coaches to gain extremely valuable experience during the NFL teams' training camps, offseason workout programs, and minicamps.
Applicants must meet certain criteria, such as having played in the NFL or have coaching experience at the high school, college, or non-NFL professional leagues such as the XFL or CFL.
"We are very excited to see Coach Scott on the practice field at the Steelers camp this fall," CWU head coach Chris Fisk said. "The Bill Walsh Fellowship program is an excellent program for coaches to gain exposure from the NFL teams, and we are excited to see what Coach Scott learns from the Steelers so we can utilize those tools in our program."
Before joining the CWU coaching staff in 2022, Scott spent after spending the past season as the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Highland Community college in Highland, Kansas. He played for the Alabama State University football team, earning Magic City Classic MVP and first team All-SWAC honors in 2017.
Scott will be joined by Tremaine Jackson, head coach of Valdosta State University, North Carolina Central University safeties coach Mike Sewell Jr., and University of Iowa recruiting specialist Christopher Browne.
Amanda Ruller, a graduate assistant and offensive analyst for the Wildcats, completed the Bill Walsh Fellowship program with the Seattle Seahawks last season.
