National Endowment for the Arts Grant Brings Amy Quan Barry to Ellensburg

Poet and novelist Amy Quan Barry will visit Central Washington University on Wednesday,

Barry will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union and Recreation Center Ballroom. Earlier in the day, she will give a craft talk titled “Navigating the Ineffable” at noon in Black Hall room 151.

Both events are free and open to the public. Her books will be available for sale courtesy of the CWU Wildcat Shop following the 7:30 p.m. event.

Barry has won numerous awards, including the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize, as well as fellowships from Stanford University, the Wisconsin Institution for Creative Writing, the Wisconsin Arts Board, and the National Endowment for the Arts. She is the author of four books of poetry and a novel, She Weeps Each Time You’re Born, a magical realist story set in Vietnam.

Barry’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Missouri Review, Ploughshares, the Kenyon Review, and other periodicals. She is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her book Water Puppets was a finalist for the PEN/Open Book award, and won the Donald Hall Prize.

This event is part of CWU’s Big Read, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, CWU Brooks Library, College of Arts and Humanities, Department of English, Karen Gookin, and the Wildcat Shop.
