The Central Washington University Wine Studies department is hosting two special events this spring, and the entire community is invited to attend.
The first, titled "Around the World with Riesling," will take place this Wednesday at Yakima Valley College, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in YVC Conference Room D. CWU Wine Studies students will showcase six exceptional Rieslings from some of the world's top wine regions.
"Taste the crisp minerality of Germany's renowned Mosel Valley, the luscious sweetness of Australia's Clare Valley, and the complex and elegant layers of New York's Finger Lakes. Take a sip of dry, aromatic Riesling from Alsace and experience the vibrant acidity and sumptuous fruit of Washington state's Evergreen Vineyard."
The evening will conclude with a special treat: a decadent icewine from Canada, made from Riesling grapes frozen solid on the vine, which results in a rich and highly concentrated wine.
Cost is $55 for Yakima Enological Society (YES) members and $65 for non-members. To register, visit yakimawine.org.
Wine enthusiasts also can look forward to another upcoming event at Canyon River Ranch Lodge on Saturday, May 13, called "A Taste of Terroir: Exploring the Wines of Washington." The wine tasting is part of the Yakima River Canyon Birdfest, and registration is required. Cost is $60 and tickets can be purchased through the Kittitas Environmental Education Network (KEEN) website.
The event, scheduled from 2-5:30 p.m. in the Yakima River Canyon, is described as "an unforgettable experience learning and tasting the unique and diverse wines that reflect the terroir of Washington state."
Indulge your senses and discover the true essence of Washington's world-renowned wine culture. Sommelier Kristine Miller-a Certified Specialist of Wine and the interim director of CWU Wine Studies-will guide attendees through an exclusive selection of wines from some of Washington's most prestigious vineyards.
Experience the rich and complex flavors of our region's finest wines, and discover the fascinating history and winemaking techniques behind each wine. You will also gain a deeper appreciation for the influence of soil, climate, and geography on the flavors and aromas of each wine.
If you have questions about either of the upcoming Wine Studies events, email Miller at Kristine.miller@cwu.edu.
