As Central Washington University continues to develop our first-ever Climate Action Plan, students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the first of two fall quarter Sustainability Forums on Wednesday, October 4.
As CWU seeks to do our part in mitigating the looming climate crisis and forging a new culture of sustainability in the generations to come, we are seeking participation from the entire campus community so we can work together to develop solutions at the local level.
Designed to gather input and foster engagement in the community, the forums will feature updates on the Climate Action Plan, guest speakers, opportunities for discussion, and light refreshments.
According to CWU Sustainability AmeriCorps member Lily De Young, university campuses are the perfect place to do this kind of work, especially with the kind of community engagement CWU has seen on this project so far.
“Universities are destinations for change,” she said. “When there is a campus full of individuals who will become the next changemakers, it is crucial that within the university there is support, infrastructure, and education regarding climate action. Central is at a very exciting time for mitigating the climate crisis with our upcoming Climate Change Action Plan, as well as countless students, staff, and faculty who are passionate about implementing strategies to promote and contribute to sustainability at CWU.”
Wednesday’s initial first Sustainability Forum will be from 3-4:30 p.m. in SURC 137. The second gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, from 3-4:30 p.m., also in SURC 137. All members of the CWU community are invited to attend, and no prior registration is required.
