CWU Symphony Orchestra Featured in Central On Stage March 23

The next CWU On Stage features the CWU Symphony Orchestra in a multi-faceted program that should please a multitude of listeners. The concert will air at 7:00 p.m. on KCTS-TV or your local public broadcast station.

The program opens with Samuel Barber’s lyrical and expressive Concerto for Violin featuring CWU Professor of Violin, Carrie Rehkopf.

Next is Ottorino Respighi’s Roman Festivals, a symphonic poem that is the third orchestral work in his "Roman Trilogy," which includes Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. Each of the four movements depict a scene of celebration from ancient or modern Rome. This tonally colorful piece describes many scenes of ancient and modern Rome, including gladiator battles, church bells, October harvest, and finally, a grand party in the Piazza Navona.

The program concludes with the final two movements of Handel’s Messiah from a performance conducted by Gary Weidenaar.
