CWU Korean Studies Professor Yoon Kim will be the guest of honor at next week’s Cultural Conversations storytelling event at the Hal Holmes Community Center in Ellensburg.

The community forum, sponsored by CWU Libraries, the Ellensburg Public Library and the CWU Office for International Studies and Programs, will take place Tuesday, February 27, at 5 p.m.

For those who can’t attend in person, they are welcome to join the discussion online.

She joined the CWU faculty in 2016 and has served in a variety of roles since that time. She leads the Korean Culture Studies Center at Central, and she has also been involved with Continuing Education and Asian Studies.

Kim remarks that she is inspired by her students’ passion for language and cross-cultural understanding. She is grateful for everyone who chooses to learn more about Korean language and culture.

“Teaching them is not just an opportunity to impart knowledge, but also to learn and be excited by their perspectives,” Kim says, adding that her teaching style relies on sensory learning, color coding, and a positive, growth mindset of classroom culture.

“I know that I can never change the whole world, but I thought I could change a student’s world by becoming an educator,” she says.

The Cultural Conversations program provides a community forum for meeting new friends and learning about global cultures. The events are free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required.
