  • March 20, 2018

A delegation from the American University held a meeting today with officials from the University of León, to study new ways of collaboration.

A delegation from Central Washington University (CWU), made up of professors from the cybersecurity area Robert A. Lupton and Deborah Wells, held a meeting this afternoon with the Rector of the University of León (ULE) Juan Francisco García Marín, the Vice-Rector of International Relations, Roberto Baelo Álvarez, the Director of the International Relations Department, María Fernández Raga, the Director of the Area of Applied Research, Transference and Internationalization, Enrique Alegre Gutiérrez, and researcher Adriana Suárez Corona, in which they analyzed the possibilities of increasing the cooperation that links both educational institutions.

Lupton explained that his visit to the ULE aims to "lay the foundations for establishing ways of collaboration for the future, both in the field of teaching and research, as in everything that has to do with increasing the exchange between both institutions."

The meeting, which was also joined by the Director of the School of Industrial, Computer and Aerospace Engineering, Ramón Ángel Fernández Díaz, will allow deepening the agreement that has existed for several years in the field of Aerospace Engineering, as well as in topics related to research projects carried out by the ULE in cooperation with the National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE).

It should be noted that on Wednesday another CWU delegation is scheduled to visit, which will arrive in León to advance aspects related to the cooperation it has with the Language Center of the ULE, which reflects the good state of the relationship between both universities.

A UNIVERSITY OF GREAT PRESTIGE AND SIZE SIMILAR TO THE LION

CWU is an educational entity of similar size to the ULE that enjoys great prestige for the quality of the teachings it imparts. It was founded in 1891 and is a public educational institution with about 12,000 students, distributed on its main campus in Ellensburg, and six University Centers: Lynnwood, Moses Lake, Des Moines, Pierce County, Wenatchee, and Yakima.

Its motto is 'When we teach, we learn', and it offers more than 125 undergraduate/bachelor's and master's degree programs, through its College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business, College of Education and Professional Studies, and College of The Sciences.

On June 14, 2017, CWU signed a collaboration agreement with the ULE, to specify their interest in aspects related to professional development activities, research, undergraduate and postgraduate education, academic exchanges of teachers and students, and even the study of the implementation in progress of joint degrees.
