Central Washington University-TVW Partnership Expands TVW Reach to Eastern Washington

A new partnership between Central Washington University and TVW will expand the geographic and intellectual diversity of the public affairs station’s programming. CWU will provide recorded and live content to TVW to bring viewers world-class speakers and cultural events.

“As one of the state’s premier higher education institutions, CWU is perfectly positioned to attract speakers and programs that interest the TVW audience,” said Mike Bay, TVW’s vice president of programming. “We’re so pleased to be able to work with the university to broadcast this type of quality content from the CWU campus.”

Among the recent speakers who appeared at CWU and had presentations broadcast via TVW, have been award-winning New York Times journalist Roger Cohen, who addressed the Syrian conflict and its impact on Europe, the Washington Supreme Court, which recently heard oral arguments on several cases during a visit to CWU, and Orlando Ayala, former corporate vice president and chairman, emerging businesses with Microsoft Corp.

Linda Schactler, CWU’s vice president of public affairs, said the partnership with TVW will also allow the Olympia-based network to offer its audience more programming from central Washington.

“We’re delighted to be able to share the thought-provoking speakers our students enjoy with the rest of the Washington state,” Schactler said. “We’re blessed with terrific video production staff and state-of-the-art facilities, that allow us to provide excellent video quality TVW viewers expect.”

TVW, which was founded in 1993, produces more than 4,000 hours of original programming each year, including legislative proceedings, state agency hearings, election coverage, and non-governmental public policy events, and award-winning produced programs. The cable-only network can be viewed in 99 percent of Washington’s cable households, and everything TVW covers can be streamed on-line on-demand at TVW.ORG.
