APOYO Food Bank Prepares for New Location on Campus

Changes on Central Washington University’s campus have given many areas a facelift. A new science building is weeks away from its opening and construction on the old Samuelson Union Building is underway.

Another project in early development is renovating the Old Heat building on University Way, which was originally built as a coal-fired steam-heat plant in 1946, but currently is used for storage, as well as housing the APOYO food bank.

APOYO, which stands for Allied People Offering Year-Round Outreach, is a food bank founded in 1999 by now-retired professor Phillip Garrison and others and in a partnership with CWU and been operating out of the Old Heat building for years.
