The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) at Central Washington University announced Monday that it has decided to postpone the upcoming President’s Diversity Awards ceremony, citing a limited number of nominations.

The 11th annual event, originally scheduled for April 17, highlights CWU faculty, staff, and students, and Ellensburg residents whose work helps create a model learning community that supports and encourages people from all walks of life.

“Central Washington University takes great pride in serving learners from a wide range of backgrounds, and we are committed to providing an exceptional learning and working environment for all people,” Interim Vice President of Equity and Belonging Charlita Shelton said in a campus-wide email co-signed by CWU President Jim Wohlpart.

Shelton and Wohlpart noted that the annual Diversity Awards ceremony gives the university an opportunity to celebrate our vision and mission with the CWU and Ellensburg communities. They added that the ELT is discussing the possibility of a staging a different CWU awards ceremony “in the not-too-distant future.”

“We look forward to bringing everyone together again soon,” the email said.
