The CWU Ellensburg campus will be hosting two Korean cultural events on Thursday, May 23. Both are free and open to the public.

The day will begin with Kim Bong Jun's Art and People, an artist talk and interactive crafting event scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. in the Wellington Event Center.

The artist will talk about how his many years of sculpture, painting, stories, and indigenous cultural work around folk traditions, myths, ceremonies, and basic human rights have culminated in a people’s movement back to a land-based culture and an awakening of a global consciousness.

One hour after the conclusion of the artist talk, the McIntyre Music Building Recital Hall will play host to a series of Korean Traditional Music and Dance Performances from 3-5 p.m.

A team of Korean performing artists will showcase Samulnori, a traditional form of percussion; Sanjo, which involves singing and playing of the gayageum; along with folk and royal court dances. There will also be live music and storytelling.

Thursday’s events are sponsored by Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle, Asian Studies Program, Korean Culture Club, World Languages and Cultures, the Department of Art and Design, and the Department of Music.
