CWU Theatre and Film to present ‘Footloose’ the next two weekends

Time to cut loose! Beginning Friday night, the CWU Department of Theatre and Film will be presenting "Footloose" on the McConnell Auditorium stage.

The department’s spring production will be presented Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., followed by 7:30 p.m. shows Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18. A final matinee show will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

Tickets for all seven shows are available at WildcatTickets.com. Cost is $20 for general admission, $18 for K-12 students and senior citizens, and $15 for CWU students.

The musical, based on the hit 1984 movie, tells the story of a young man from Chicago who moves to a small Midwestern town of Bomont, which has made dancing and rock music illegal. The main character, Ren McCormack (played by Dylan Santini), tries to change the town's conservative dynamics along with his new friends, Willard Hewitt (Nick Zimmy) and Ariel Moore (Yuka Kawai).

Ren and his friends eventually convince the town leaders, including Ariel’s father, the Reverend Shaw Moore (Vallie) to let the teenagers dance. Along the way, the teens help the town heal from a tragedy that has had a lasting impact on the residents.

Footloose is directed by Associate Professor Emilie Rollie, and the music director is Musical Theatre Lecturer Callum Morris. The stage manager is CWU student Ashley Winrod and the assistant stage manager is student Madi Moore.
