CWU PATH (Prevention, Advocacy, Training, and Healing) is hosting the third annual Show Up, Speak Out event on Wednesday, April 24, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The free event, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on the SURC West Patio, is an opportunity for student survivors of interpersonal violence to share their stories publicly in a safe, supportive environment. The survivor speak out will last from 5-6:30 p.m., and the event will conclude with a march around campus until 7 p.m.
Show Up, Speak Out is intended to be a cathartic space for venting and building a sense of community with other survivors.
During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, PATH is highlighting the strength and courage of survivors of interpersonal violence. Katie Parks, Assistant Director for Violence Prevention and Response at CWU, is excited about Show Up, Speak Out’s focus on supporting survivors.
“Survivors deserve to have a space where they feel seen, heard, and validated,” she said. “We’re hoping that Show Up, Speak Out will be an opportunity for student survivors to have their voices heard and find community with other survivors.”
PATH provides confidential advocacy for CWU students who have experienced, or been impacted by, interpersonal violence (sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, stalking, or sexual harassment).
PATH also prioritizes awareness raising during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), Stalking Awareness Month (January), and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April). For more information about PATH programming, visit their Instagram page.
