CWU awards eight scholarships at Regional Art Show

Central Washington University awarded $16,000 in scholarship funds to eight high school art students earlier this month for the work they submitted for the 2024 Regional High School Art Show.

The annual show, held March 7 at the Yakima Valley Museum, featured 48 pieces by 32 student artists from six school districts in south-central Washington.

CWU Art + Design faculty helped select the eight students who will receive scholarships, which will be used toward enrollment in art classes at Central:

  • Camille Tretreault, Davis High School
  • Lesli Badillo, Davis High School
  • Millan Ly, West Valley High School
  • Dulce Alverez, Toppenish High School
  • Naomi Dowd, Riverside Christian High School
  • Galicia Fajardo, Grandview High School
  • Claira Tuning, Goldendale High School
  • Rylie Boyes, Goldendale High School
regional-art-show-2.pngAccording to a report on Apple Valley News Now, 18 students received recognition for their work, and 14 of the pieces were awarded Judge’s Choice Awards, sending them to the statewide Superintendent's High School Art Show in Olympia on May 28.


Two pieces by Marvella Esiquio and Jazmine Littlewolf earned the Educational Service District 105 Board Choice Award and will become part of the permanent display at the ESD 105 office in Yakima. Angelica Falcon and Miguel Larios received Regional Photography Awards for their pieces.

All winning artworks will remain available in the online gallery throughout the school year.
