The CWU Physics Department is a vibrant, innovative, and highly motivated group of faculty and staff with the common goal of providing exceptional educational opportunities in physics and astronomy to all of our students. We currently have eight full-time faculty, all with active research programs, and have recently moved into a new state-of-the-art building with fully equipped teaching and research space. Whether you are interested in a career in research, education, engineering, biotechnology, science writing, or a host of other STEM careers, there has never been a better time to be a physics major at CWU. Join us! If you are a current CWU student, you can declare a physics major by following these simple steps: Declaring a Physics Major.

Advantages of majoring in physics at CWU:

  • Small classes taught by award-winning faculty
  • Research opportunities for undergraduates
  • Multiple degree options, including a dual-degree physics/engineering program
  • Nationally recognized clubs that are active in community outreach
