Pam McMullin-Messier is a Professor of Sociology and has been actively involved with identity-based and environmental interdisciplinary programs at CWU. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology and a graduate certificate in Gender Studies from the University of Southern California; her dissertation focused on the intersection of population-environmentalism with nationalism and human rights.  

Pam has been at CWU since 2009. Prior to Central, she worked at Kutztown University, Pennsylvania State University, Gettysburg College, and Longwood University. While at Central, Pam has served in various roles, which include SOURCE, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Environmental Studies, Douglas Honors College, McNair Scholars, and the Social Justice and Human Rights Dialogues. 

Pam’s research revolves around three areas of specialization: Environment, Gender, and Population Studies. Her areas of interest include environmental justice, sustainability, collective behavior, sexuality and gender, aging and family, reproductive justice, and immigrant rights. Pam’s current research focuses on the intersections of student retention and equity gaps with safety, accessibility, and belonging.
