Affinity Groups

The DEC facilitates identity-based affinity programs in order to affirm students in their identity development, honor lived experiences, and build supportive communities that will sustain students throughout their time at CWU. Affinity groups are facilitated spaces for individuals togather around shared identities. Our affinity programs seek to build community and sense of belonging for students with marginalized identities in a predominantly white institution.

THRIVE: Women of Color Empowerment Program

THRIVE creates supportive and validating spaces for women of color to show up unapologetically as their full selves. We focus on developing leadership skills to support women of color students on campus, examining systems of power, privilege, and oppression as it relates to WOC experiences, and building lasting relationships and connections. THRIVE hosts regular gatherings throughout the year around various topics including community building, identity reflection, self-love, confidence, and cultivating connections with women of color faculty & staff. This is a great opportunity to connect with women of color across campus.

Q*Fam: A 2LGBTQIA+ Support Program

Q*Fam is a support program for 2LGBTQIA+ Identifying students. We engage in study sessions, fun activities, identity exploration, community building, and forming connections with 2LGBTQIA+ identifying faculty and staff across campus. We celebrate and affirm one another as we are. Q*Fam hosts regular gatherings throughout the year such as Q*Art, Q*Café, Q*Fam “Pride Dye,” and many more! This is a great opportunity to connect with other 2LGBTQ+ folks across campus and meet folks in your corner.

Find Your People

Find Your People collaborates with student organizations and clubs across campus to facilitate community building opportunities around certain identities. Past Find Your People events have included: First Time in College, LGBTQ+ BIPOC, Bi-Sexual Identities, and Multiracial Students.
