From the President: Seeking Diversity Awards Nominations

The 2022 President's Diversity Awards winners

The 2022 CWU Diversity Awards winners joined President Wohlpart for a group photo last May.

Dear CWU Community,

We are fortunate to be part of a community where so many of our students and employees share a commitment to making Central Washington University an even better place for us all. The care we show one another empowers us to live our vision to be a model learning community of equity and belonging.

CWU’s ninth annual President’s Diversity Awards provides an important opportunity for us to recognize the accomplishments we are making in our journey, and to honor members of the CWU community who are leading and modeling this approach. If you know someone who is making significant contributions to advance equity and belonging on campus or within our broader community, we ask that you please submit a nomination online by Friday, February 3.

The award winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Works in partnership across and within the campus and/or community to promote equity, belonging, diversity, and inclusion through social justice activities, events, and programs.
  • Collaborates across and within the campus and/or community to take action to support equitable, diverse, and inclusive environments in the region.
  • Demonstrated sustained commitment across time that is integrated into everyday decisions and actions that values equity, belonging, and diversity.

Additionally, you are welcome to nominate someone for a Bobby Cummings Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize an individual who has worked on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues throughout their careers. You may submit a letter of support to accompany the nomination, and they can be submitted in the nomination form or sent to Sarah Scott at sarah.scott@cwu.edu. Please contact Sarah with any questions about the awards.

Information on how to RSVP to the ninth annual President’s Diversity Awards ceremony — scheduled for Thursday, March 2, at 5 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom — will be coming soon. In the meantime, we ask that you nominate a friend or colleague for recognition at this important event for our university.

Thank you for all you do to make CWU a special place for our students, employees, alumni, and many guests. It is an honor to serve this amazing university on our path to creating an even more equitable, diverse, and inclusive community committed to our individual and shared success.

Sincerely,

A. James Wohlpart
President
