Women's Rugby Routs University of Washington 88-0

The Central Washington University women's rugby team defeated the University of Washington by a score of 88-0.

Central controlled the game match from the first blow of the whistle outscoring UW 52-0 in the first half.

"We were able to put together multiple phases," Head Coach Mel Denham explained. "That is something you need to do to score points. It was a real good team effort."

Nate Serevi led the Wildcats with three trys on the day. Jen Johnson and Mele Halahuni chipped in with two apiece.

The most exciting try of the day came in the first half. Cassidy Meyers came out of nowhere during a Husky attack, intercepted a lateral pass and ran it 50 meters for a score.

"I saw a lot of good things out there today," Denham added. "We are looking to set a standard of play and facilities here at Central, and I think we did that today."

The Wildcats will take the field again, Oct. 18 when they travel to Oregon State University to compete in the OSU 7's qualifier. The match is set to begin at Noon.

"We saw a lot of really great individual skills and athletics abilities," Denham said speaking of her team. "We are just looking to connect those skills into one team plan."
