Weather Warning Update

Central Washington University closed early this morning after an ice storm made for treacherous travel—on foot, in cars, or any other way. Currently, the ice storm warning for the Kittitas Valley has been extended to midnight tonight. The National Weather Service is forecasting continued snow and freezing rain into early Thursday morning, with temperatures warming throughout the day tomorrow.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced that Interstate-90 / Snoqualmie Pass "will not open today or tonight." Other reports say that there is a strong possibility I-90 will not open until late tomorrow.  Currently there are no restrictions on I-82/Manastash or US 97 Blewett. According to the State Patrol, freeway on- and off-ramps are very slick; any moisture that hits the ground freezes.

While university, city and county crews have made excellent progress clearing walkways and roads in Ellensburg, outlying roads are still very icy.

Please monitor and CWU Facebook for updates on CWU-Ellensburg operations Thursday, January 19.  We are hoping to be back in full operation, but the health and safety of our students and employees is paramount. So, we'll monitor the weather reports and decide whether to resume regular activities based on that information.
