Governor Jay Inslee speaks with students at CWU


Gov. Jay Inslee met with students at Central Washington University Wednesday afternoon, many of whom had questions revolving around a similar theme: How will the state support higher education?

With court-mandated obligations to increase funding for K-12 education and mental health care, and a host of other needed services to pay for, Inslee, a Democrat, pushed his budget proposals, saying the state needs to find new revenue.

“Our state’s revenue structure, it is the machine that builds these bricks in this building. It’s supported by a physical foundation, but it’s also supported by a revenue foundation,” he said. “That revenue foundation is full of worms, cracks, and it’s falling apart.”
