CWU Names Richard Highfield as Interim Dean of the College of Business

Central Washington University Provost Katherine Frank today named Richard “Dick” Highfield, former Dean and Professor at the University of New Haven College of Business, as Interim Dean of CWU’s College of Business.
He succeeds Kathryn Martell, who has announced that she will be returning to the classroom. He begins his new position on August 20.
“With his experience in establishing strategic plans and completing a successful accreditation process in his past positions, I’m confident he will provide the kind of leadership that ensures the College of Business stays on course as we move forward to hire a new dean,” Frank said.
Highfield, who retired earlier this year as a professor emeritus, led the UNH College of Business from 2008-2011. Prior to that, he served as Dean and Professor, Economics and Finance, at Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University in New York from 2003-2008 and as Dean and Service Professor in the College of Business at the University of Albany, State University of New York from 1999 to 2003.
From 1993 to 1999, Highfield was Associate Dean, MBA Program and Operations at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. He also was on the executive board of the MBA Enterprise Corps, which places MBA graduates in Peace Corps-like assignments in locally controlled businesses in emerging market economies.
He is a graduate of Stanford University, with a BA in Economics, and earned a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University and a PhD in Econometrics and Economics at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Highfield was selected from candidates put forward by the Registry, a national organization with more than 500 experienced, retired higher education executives who are available on an interim basis to assist colleges and universities.
