CWU Names New Registrar
Central Washington University today announced the hiring of Arturo Torres as the university’s new Registrar.
Torres, who previously served as an assistant registrar at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will begin on July 16, 2019.
“Arturo brings more than 13 years of experience working in registrar services and in university admissions and recruitment,” said CWU President James L. Gaudino. “He understands the challenges and demands in the Registrar’s office, which is moving to digitize all of its records, and has the experience and skills to help us make that transition.”
Mr. Torres began his career in higher education in 2005 as an administrative assistant in the Office of the Registrar at Nevada State College in Las Vegas. He later moved to the same office at UNLV, where he oversaw academic scheduling as well as document management, ticketing management, and the registrar social media and website.
“Across the CWU campus with the people I interacted with, I felt the willingness to work closer with Registrar Services to solve issues using data available in the university systems,” Torres said. “I am excited to work with the registrar staff in moving Registrar Services paperless.”
Mr. Torres said he was particularly impressed with the knowledgeable and dedicated staff he met during the interview process.
“They take their jobs seriously and are committed to doing it correct and proper,” he continued. “This is the team I want to work with and who I want to make sure are introduced and recognized across Central Washington University for the work they do.
“I want my family to live and grow in a clean beautiful town dedicated to higher education and a connection to nature and the outdoors,” he continued. “I am excited to work with the technology available at Central to create innovative and collaborative solutions to common problems found at Central and all colleges and universities across the country.”
Torres earned his BA in Public Administration, Law Enforcement from Nevada State College in 2013, and his MA in Public Administration, Non-Profit Management from UNLV in 2015.
The Registrar’s Office is responsible for student registration and enrollment, degree check-out, transfer articulation, and student record information.
