CWU-Des Moines and Ellensburg to Hold a Virtual SOURCE

SOURCE 2020 posterDespite some unanticipated changes, Central Washington University students at the Ellensburg campus and the five university centers and instructional sites in the Puget Sound region will still get to the SOURCE this year—online.

SOURCE will take place from May 18, at 8 a.m. through May 24, at 9 p.m.

This is the 25th year for the CWU Symposium Of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE), the longest running multidisciplinary event of its kind in Washington state. It’s the fourth straight year that it has been held, in part, at CWU-Des Moines.

“We have seen a steady increase in SOURCE participation on the Westside during the last three years,” said Kurt Ikemeier, CWU University Centers Regional Director-Des Moines Center.

However, the 2020 SOURCE event is being done in a virtual realm, for obvious social-distancing reasons.

“When we learned the face-to-face event had to be canceled, the Office of Undergraduate Research and SOURCE committee began exploring ways to move the event online,” explained Griff Tester, director of the CWU Office of Undergraduate Research.

Those discussions led to a partnership with the Student Opportunity Center. It connects students with more than 10,000 resources, from grants to conferences, professional development to publications. The collaboration allowed the virtual SOURCE program to proceed.

The annual CWU symposium provides a university-wide forum for students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines to present their research, scholarship, or other creative activities in a juried environment. It also allows students to showcase their work and hone their skills through oral or poster presentations, or creative works.

On Friday, May 15, all presenters, faculty, and staff will receive an electronic program containing the abstracts for, along with a link to access, this year’s event. For more information, visit the CWU SOURCE web page.
