CWU Athletics and 88.1 The Burg to Create Wildcat Sports Radio Network
Central Washington University athletics department is excited to announce the Wildcats have partnered with 88.1 The Burg for the 2015-16 year.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with CWU Athletics on this tremendous venture, the Wildcat Sports Radio Network," KCWU General Manager Travis Box said. "The ability to bring the athletic broadcasts to KCWU and provide such an important venue to highlight not only Central's phenomenal student athletes but also the phenomenal student broadcasters of The 'Burg, is something very special!"
The partnership will see the launch of CWU's Wildcat Sports Radio Network (WSRN). Wildcat football and basketball games will be broadcast on-air in Ellensburg at 88.1 FM, streamed online at www.881theburg.com, and on the go with the new 'Burg App. The app is available for iPhone, Android, and Microsoft devices.
Jeff MacMillan will tackle the play-by-play duties for football and will be joined by CWU Athletics Hall of Famer, and long time color man, Dave Heaverlo. New this year, WSRN will provide sideline reporting from Gage McHenry.
"It's a new level of partnership for us, but I can tell you, Dennis and his team are some of the most professional people I have had the honor to work with," Box said. "We are committed, both CWU Athletics and KCWU, to highlighting our Wildcat Pride, week in and week out."
KCWU-FM has been nationally recognized for their efforts on air. In March 2015 was awarded the 2015 Best College Radio Station (with enrollment over 10,000 students) beating out schools Oregon State, Cal State Long Beach, and NYU among others.
"CWU and The 'Burg pride themselves on giving students hands on, real world experience that will benefit them as they move forward in their career of choice," KCWU-FM Program Director Nikki Marra said. "It is wonderful that we are now able to do that in yet another field."
The Burg will be travelling with football to broadcast all games live. The 2015 football season kicks off at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sept. 5.
