  In this lecture-recital, Dr. Timofeyev will discuss his historic instrument and the Czech and Polish musicians who found themselves in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the 1790s. The seven-string guitar frequently appeared in Russian literature, paintings, and memoirs, and can tell us much about life during the Russian Empire up to the late 19th century. The 1917 Revolution brought the golden age of the seven-string guitar to an end and the instrument - and its rich repertoire - has only now been revived through the research and performances of Dr. Timofeyev.
