The CWU Veterans Center continues to host Veterans Day activities all week.

The Veterans Center at Central Washington University has been preparing for Veterans Day on Thursday with a series of programs and events during the annual Remember Everyone Deployed (RED) Week.

Led by Veterans Center staff and students, members of the CWU community joined together every day this week to pay tribute to U.S. service members currently deployed overseas.

“We believe it’s important for us to do programming like RED Week for our campus and local community as part of our continuous effort to raise awareness and provide better support for our student veterans and their families,” said Veterans Center Director Ruben Cardenas. “We have found that increased awareness leads to more understanding.”

RED Week began with a flag display Monday in Walnut Mall, followed by a virtual benefits fair, a LinkedIn profile training session, and a movie night in the SURC. Today’s scheduled event is a 246th birthday celebration for the Marine Corps, to be held at 4 p.m. in the Veterans Center, Bouillon Hall room 214. The celebration will be presented live on Zoom for anyone who would like to attend.

The university will be closed Thursday and no on-campus events are planned, but Cardenas said some members of CWU veterans community will be participating in a special Veterans Day brewing event at Yakima Valley Hops in Yakima. All proceeds will go toward supporting veterans service organizations in Central Washington.

Members of the Wildcat community are encouraged to attend the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Ellensburg from 11 a.m. to noon. The parade will start at the Ellensburg Police Department on the corner of Pearl and First streets, head east on Sixth Street, and then follow Pine Street on the way back to the police station. Veterans who want to ride in the procession or march must arrive between 10 and 11 a.m.

RED Week will conclude at 3 p.m. Friday when the Veterans Center retires the flags flying on Walnut Mall. If you would like to attend, please note that all campus safety protocols, such as wearing face coverings, remain in effect.

If you have questions, email the Veterans Center here.
